Omaha, Nebraska – Damaging wind gusts could sweep through northeast Nebraska late Monday night, with storms most likely to develop between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, there’s a 15–30% chance of storms forming in the region, with the strongest activity expected near the South Dakota border. Wind gusts topping 65 mph remain the primary concern, especially in counties such as Knox, Cedar, Dixon, and Dakota. While hail up to 1 inch is possible, the tornado risk is low but not zero.
Storms are expected to move in from South Dakota and could clip far northeast Nebraska while shifting southeastward. Areas including Norfolk, Wayne, and Hartington should stay alert for rapid weather changes and localized power outages. Motorists traveling along U.S. Highway 20 or Highway 81 should prepare for sudden gusts and reduced visibility.
Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, and avoid unnecessary travel after dark.
Weather alerts remain in effect through early Tuesday morning, with updates likely if the storm track shifts.
