Hastings, NE – The first week of December is expected to stay colder than normal across central Nebraska, with a chance for light accumulating snow late Sunday into Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings.

Forecasters say temperatures will remain well below seasonal averages through at least Thursday. Highs on Sunday are expected to range from the low to upper 20s, with overnight lows dipping into the teens. Monday brings slightly milder conditions, but highs will still only reach the 23–30° range.

A weak disturbance passing through the region Sunday night into Monday may produce light, fluffy snowfall, with accumulations generally expected to stay around 1 to 2 inches for most locations. NWS says this system is not expected to cause widespread travel issues, but early-morning slick spots are possible.

Tuesday through Thursday will keep the chilly pattern in place. Highs are projected to remain in the mid-30s to low 40s, with overnight lows in the teens and lower 20s. Skies will vary from partly cloudy to mostly sunny, offering some improvement in daytime warmth but still running below early December normals. Typically, highs this time of year reach the low 40s, with lows in the lower 20s.

Forecasters say temperatures may begin trending closer to normal by Friday as the cold air mass slowly retreats.

Drivers heading out early this week should remain alert for light snow Monday morning and areas of frost each night. The NWS will provide additional updates if snow projections or timing change.
