HASTINGS, NE – A crisp chill greets much of central Nebraska early this Halloween morning as clear skies and light northwest winds settle across the plains. Temperatures hover near the freezing mark, marking another reminder that fall’s warmth is fading fast.

The National Weather Service in Hastings reports fair and dry conditions through the weekend, though frost remains possible early Saturday morning where winds calm and skies stay clear. Drivers along I-80 and Highway 6 may notice patches of low fog near dawn before sunshine quickly takes over.

Friday stays mostly sunny but cool, with highs around 53°F and northwest winds gusting near 25 mph, adding a brisk feel to the air. By Saturday, winds ease, skies stay bright, and highs climb into the upper 40s — still chilly but pleasant for outdoor cleanup, football, or late trick-or-treat events.

Sunday brings the change. Southerly breezes return, helping temperatures rebound into the low 60s under full sunshine. The milder air lingers into early next week, offering a brief November warm-up with highs near 65°F by Tuesday.

Looking farther ahead, models hint at cooler air returning midweek, but no snow threats are on the radar — yet. However, with the first week of November beginning, the region enters that familiar winter-watch window, when early-season fronts can flip from mild to frosty in a day.

As Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nebraskans can enjoy an extra hour of rest — and maybe a slow, golden sunrise over the fields before winter’s true bite arrives.
