Omaha, Nebraska – Rain is set to quickly overspread eastern Nebraska this afternoon, with storms developing in time to impact the evening commute and continuing into Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, most areas across eastern Nebraska and southwest Iowa can expect between a half inch and 1 inch of rainfall as precipitation expands through the afternoon and persists into Thursday. The highest rain chances will occur from late afternoon into the overnight hours.
A few storms could become strong to severe this evening, especially across southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, including areas near Lincoln, Nebraska City, and Council Bluffs. Damaging winds and brief heavy downpours will be the primary concerns.
Roads along I-80, I-29, and Highway 75 could become slick during periods of steady rain, with reduced visibility and ponding possible during heavier showers.
Rain will continue into Thursday, potentially impacting both the morning and midday commutes. Residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts and use caution when traveling, especially during periods of heavier rainfall and storm activity.
