Grand Island, Neb. – Residents across central Nebraska should stay alert for funnel clouds this afternoon as weak showers move through Hall, Hamilton, York, Adams, Clay, Fillmore, Webster, Nuckolls, and Thayer counties. The National Weather Service says these storms may briefly produce a weak landspout tornado before dissipating by about 6 p.m.
According to forecasters in Hastings, a slow-moving surface boundary paired with light winds is fueling scattered showers. While these funnels typically remain aloft, any that touch down could cause damage. People in affected areas, including Grand Island, Hastings, and York, should move indoors immediately if a funnel is spotted.
Spotters and residents are urged to report funnel clouds to the National Weather Service. Outdoor events and activities may be interrupted, and drivers should be prepared to seek shelter if a funnel cloud is observed.
The showers are expected to weaken and move out of the area by early evening, but similar weak boundary setups can form quickly during late summer afternoons. Additional advisories are possible if storm development continues.
