Sutherland, NE – A Nebraska State Patrol trooper saved a colony of bees in an unusual “sting” operation on Interstate 80 near Sutherland.
Last week, Trooper Colindres encountered a beehive box on the highway. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, the box likely fell off a truck, creating a buzzing hazard for motorists and the bees. All of Troop D quickly rallied to secure the hive, but it was thanks to a passerby that the bees were safely relocated.
The hive’s unexpected stop generated a lot of attention. A post shared by Nebraska State Patrol, showing the stranded hive, stirred social media. Comments poured in with bee puns, calling it a “truly a stinging operation” and thanking the trooper for his sweet save.
This isn’t the first roadside bee rescue in Nebraska. State troopers are occasionally called to manage wildlife in transit, but a mobile honeycomb was a rare find. The incident underscored the importance of safe cargo handling for both drivers and precious pollinators.
