Lincoln, Neb. – A tornado watch is in effect across much of eastern Nebraska until 9 p.m. Monday, with cities like Lincoln, Omaha, and Norfolk under increased threat from severe storms capable of spawning twisters.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 293 includes 31 counties stretching from York to Richardson, including Dodge, Lancaster, and Sarpy. Strong supercells could bring tornadoes, large hail, and wind gusts topping 70 mph.

Communities in the Omaha metro and surrounding towns should stay weather-aware throughout the evening. Local emergency officials recommend reviewing shelter plans and charging devices in case of power outages. Outdoor activities, especially in parks and school fields, should be canceled or moved indoors.

Travel on I-80 and Highway 77 could be dangerous later this afternoon if storms intensify, with limited visibility and wind damage a real concern. Schools and businesses may alter schedules depending on storm timing.
