Nebraska Tornado Warning: Eastern Douglas County in Path of Radar-Indicated Twister Until 5 p.m.

Omaha, Neb. – A tornado warning is in effect for parts of eastern Nebraska and southwestern Iowa until 5 p.m. CDT Thursday, with southeastern Omaha and Council Bluffs directly in the storm’s path.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, radar detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near southeastern Omaha at 4:30 p.m., moving northeast at 20 mph. The storm is also expected to bring quarter-size hail.

Areas at immediate risk include Eppley Airfield, Carter Lake, Midtown Omaha, and Crescent, Iowa. Residents in these areas are urged to take cover in a basement or interior room away from windows. Mobile homes, vehicles, and outdoor areas are considered unsafe during this warning.

Power outages and wind damage are possible, especially in neighborhoods with older infrastructure. Emergency management officials recommend charging mobile devices now and preparing to shelter in place for at least 30 minutes.

This is a rapidly developing situation with potential for life-threatening impacts. Additional warnings may be issued if the storm strengthens or spawns new rotation.
