Hastings, Nebraska – Scattered thunderstorms could rattle parts of south central Nebraska through Sunday morning, with a second round of storms bringing stronger winds by evening. Wind gusts up to 60 mph may impact areas mainly west of Highway 281, with the National Weather Service urging caution into the overnight hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, these storms may move in from the northwest late Sunday, carrying a Marginal Risk for severe weather. Rainfall totals should remain light, but isolated downpours or brief damaging gusts are possible near Dawson, Buffalo, and Hall counties.

Beyond the storms, the bigger concern this week will be rising heat. Temperatures will climb steadily each day, peaking Thursday and Friday when heat index values could reach between 100 and 105 degrees. Afternoon outdoor activity should be limited, especially for vulnerable groups and those without air conditioning.

Most of the work week stays dry, though another storm system could move in late Tuesday into early Wednesday. Longer-term relief may not arrive until the weekend with the next cold front.

Warnings remain in place through Sunday night. More advisories are likely as the heat builds.
