Omaha, Nebraska – Sunshine will dominate eastern Nebraska skies Sunday, but don’t let the calm fool you — storms are brewing by midweek. Residents across Omaha and the I-80 corridor should prepare for a return of summer thunderstorms and rising humidity starting Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, Sunday, July 13 will be mostly sunny with a high near 89°F. Light south winds will persist, shifting slightly by evening. Monday follows with similar conditions, hitting 90°F under continued mostly sunny skies. But change begins creeping in by Tuesday, with a slight 20% chance of afternoon thunderstorms and a high near 91°F.

By Tuesday night, stronger storm activity becomes more likely — especially after 1 a.m. — with southeast winds up to 8 mph and low temps around 70°F. The chance of showers and thunderstorms continues into Wednesday, with gusts as high as 17 mph. Travelers along I-80 and I-29 should use caution and expect reduced visibility during heavier rain bands.

To prepare: limit non-essential travel during storms, secure outdoor furniture, and monitor NWS alerts via NOAA radio or mobile apps. Lightning, ponding on roads, and brief power disruptions are all possible.
