Omaha, Nebraska – A midweek storm surge could drench parts of eastern Nebraska by 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 30th, bringing damaging wind gusts and localized flooding to the Omaha metro.
According to the National Weather Service, a strong storm system will move through the region beginning midday Wednesday. Thunderstorms are likely between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., with an 80% chance of additional showers and possible flash flooding from 1 p.m. to evening. Wind gusts may reach up to 25 mph, and rainfall totals between 1 and 2 inches are possible.
Residents across Douglas and Sarpy counties — including Carter Lake, Bellevue, and Council Bluffs — should expect travel disruptions along I-80, I-29, and Highway 75. Emergency officials urge residents to stay weather-aware, especially in low-lying flood-prone areas. Secure outdoor items and avoid travel during the afternoon peak.
This follows days of dangerous heat, with Monday’s highs near 98°F and heat indices topping 110°F south of Highway 30. The heat will ease slightly by Thursday, but humidity and moisture will linger, keeping storm chances elevated.
By Friday, August 1st, conditions become mostly sunny with highs near 78°F — a welcome break. However, another round of rain may return by Sunday into Monday.
