Omaha, Nebraska – Flood risks remain elevated across eastern Nebraska Saturday as river levels continue to rise and storms threaten to return by nightfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, minor flooding is forecast along the Platte River near Leshara through Sunday afternoon. At 8.5 feet, lowland flooding is ongoing, including near the Papio NRD access site off Highway 64, which is currently inundated. The river is expected to crest near 8.1 feet Saturday evening.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads, especially after dark, and never attempt to cross water-covered streets. Travel in Sarpy, Saunders, and Douglas counties may be impacted through the weekend.

Meanwhile, calm and hot conditions are expected most of Saturday, with highs near 95°F. However, by Saturday night, a 30% chance of thunderstorms reenters the forecast. Storms are more likely Sunday afternoon and night, with a 60% chance of rain and gusts near 20 mph possible.

Looking ahead to the holiday week, Monday and Tuesday bring clearer skies and highs in the upper 80s. But a stormy pattern could return as early as Wednesday night, potentially impacting early Fourth of July travel plans.
