Omaha, NE – A Heat Advisory will be in effect for southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa this afternoon, with temperatures expected to soar. Hot conditions will continue through the work week, peaking on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to the US National Weather Service Omaha/Valley Nebraska, temperatures will range from 90 to 102 degrees Fahrenheit, with heat indices reaching between 100 and 113 degrees. Lingering smoke from Canadian wildfires could slightly reduce temperatures but also impact air quality.

Residents are advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses by staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable populations such as the elderly and young children.

The forecast for Omaha predicts a high of 94 degrees today, with temperatures climbing to 96 degrees on Tuesday and nearly reaching 100 degrees on Wednesday. Cooler temperatures are expected on Thursday, with highs dropping to the upper 80s, but the heat will return on Friday and persist through the weekend with highs around 90 degrees.

Air quality is currently moderate, with an index of 51. Winds are expected to be mild, with gusts reaching up to 7 mph. Despite the high temperatures, clear skies will dominate the forecast, providing no relief from cloud cover.

The excessive heat watch for Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday indicates the potential for more extreme conditions. Local authorities urge residents to stay informed on weather updates and heed warnings for their safety.

The extended forecast shows continued hot and dry conditions into next week, with temperatures remaining in the mid-90s. Residents should remain vigilant and prepared for prolonged heat exposure.
