Omaha, NE – Nebraska is preparing for hazardous winter weather tonight, with brief snow showers and gusty winds forecasted across the region. The National Weather Service warns that conditions could rapidly deteriorate, especially along Interstate 80 and other major routes.

According to the National Weather Service, snow showers are expected to develop this evening, beginning around 6 p.m. and continuing until 3 a.m. Quick bursts of heavy snow, combined with winds gusting up to 40 mph, could create slick roads and reduced visibility for drivers. Accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are possible in some areas. Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing, increasing the risk of flash freezing on roadways.

Residents are urged to exercise caution, particularly during the evening commute. Anyone traveling tonight should allow extra time, check for updates on road conditions, and carry an emergency kit in case of delays.

Looking ahead, colder air will dominate the midweek forecast, with high temperatures dropping to the 20s by Wednesday. Flurries are possible Wednesday morning, while Thursday brings a chance of light snow, especially in northeastern Nebraska.

By Friday, another winter storm system may arrive, with a 30% chance of a wintry mix, including freezing rain. Temperatures will remain cold throughout the week, with overnight lows plunging into the teens and single digits.

Stay tuned to local forecasts for the latest updates on hazardous conditions and prepare for potential disruptions.
