Omaha, Nebraska – Parts of eastern Nebraska could see strong to severe storms late Wednesday as a Level 1 risk for severe weather moves into the region, bringing threats of hail, damaging winds, and the possibility of a tornado.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, there is a 40–70% chance of thunderstorms developing Wednesday evening into the overnight hours across eastern Nebraska and into western Iowa. The outlook includes a 5–14% chance that any one storm could become severe.

Communities including Omaha, Fremont, Lincoln, and Norfolk are under the highest local risk level for this round of storms. Wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to quarter size are possible. While the tornado threat is low, it is not zero—residents are urged to stay weather aware, especially after sunset.

Travel during the evening commute and overnight could be impacted by sudden downpours and reduced visibility. Those with outdoor plans should monitor weather alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Storms are expected to taper off by early Thursday morning, but additional advisories could be issued if conditions intensify. Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service.
