Hastings, Nebraska – Damaging winds up to 70 mph, hail the size of golf balls, and isolated tornadoes could impact central Nebraska between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 2 a.m. Wednesday as a severe storm complex sweeps through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, an “Enhanced Risk” (Level 3 of 5) covers much of the I-80 corridor, including Kearney, Grand Island, and Norfolk. The storms are expected to develop in the evening and move southeast overnight, fueled by daytime highs in the 90s and heat indices topping 100 degrees south of Cambridge and Beloit, Kansas.

Wind damage and intense rainfall will be the main threats, with flash flooding possible in areas that see training storms. Some isolated supercells may develop ahead of the main line, raising the risk of an early tornado. Power outages and road hazards are likely where trees or utility lines fall.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items, charge devices, and stay off the roads if storms approach. Be sure to enable Wireless Emergency Alerts and follow local media for updates.

The severe weather threat ends by early Wednesday, but additional alerts could be issued if conditions evolve.
