Omaha, Nebraska – Heavy rain and quarter-sized hail could batter parts of eastern Nebraska starting Monday evening, as a strong line of thunderstorms moves through the area and lingers into early Tuesday. Drivers from Omaha to Lincoln should prepare for hazardous travel and possible flash flooding overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, there’s a 60–90% chance of thunderstorms beginning Monday night, with up to a 20% chance of a storm turning severe. While the most intense activity is expected to track southeast, the Omaha metro and surrounding counties remain under a Level 2 threat for damaging hail and localized flooding.

Areas at highest risk include Douglas, Sarpy, Lancaster, and Cass counties. Rainfall rates may exceed an inch per hour in some spots, raising concerns for low-lying roads and underpasses. Wind gusts over 60 mph are also possible in isolated cells. Tornado potential remains low at this time.

Residents are advised to delay non-essential travel after dark, clear storm drains, and secure loose outdoor items. Keep flashlights and weather radios nearby in case of power outages or overnight warnings.

Storms may persist into Tuesday morning’s commute. Additional alerts could be issued if conditions shift.
