Hastings, Nebraska – Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across central Nebraska from late Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning, bringing quarter-size hail, strong winds, and heavy rainfall that could impact travel and outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, storms will begin redeveloping around 4 p.m. Thursday and are expected to track eastward into the night, lasting through approximately 1 a.m. Friday. Some storms may produce wind gusts nearing 60 MPH, creating localized hazards for drivers and outdoor structures.

Communities across Adams, Buffalo, Hall, and Dawson counties lie within a Level 2 “Slight Risk” zone, where severe activity is more likely. Interstate 80 travelers should use caution, particularly near Kearney and Grand Island, as storms may reduce visibility and create slick roads. Residents are advised to secure loose items, park vehicles under cover, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.

Uncertainty remains about the strength of Friday night’s storms, but isolated hail and gusty winds are still possible. Another update is expected by early Friday as conditions evolve. Severe storm warnings remain in effect for much of the region through early Friday morning.
