Omaha, Neb. – Residents across eastern Nebraska should prepare for another round of strong to severe storms moving in late tonight, with the greatest threat arriving between midnight and 5 a.m. Tuesday. Damaging winds up to 80 mph are the main concern, with hail as large as 1 inch also possible.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, storms may first develop in scattered pockets this evening before consolidating into a more widespread line overnight. The storm system carries a 40 to 50 percent chance of development, with a 5 to 29 percent chance that storms reach severe levels.
Communities most at risk include Omaha, Lincoln, Columbus, and Norfolk, where downed trees and power lines could disrupt travel and utilities. Drivers on I-80 and Highway 81 should remain alert to rapidly changing conditions, as wind-driven rain may reduce visibility. Flooding is not expected to be widespread, but locally heavy rainfall cannot be ruled out.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid non-essential overnight travel, and make sure devices are fully charged in case of power outages. Keep multiple ways to receive warnings active, especially during overnight hours when storms can be harder to detect.
The storm threat will ease after sunrise Tuesday, but additional weather updates may follow later in the week.
