Nebraska Severe Storm Alert: Baseball-Size Hail Possible Today

Omaha, NE – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe weather alert for Nebraska, predicting storms that may bring hail the size of baseballs. Strong winds and isolated tornadoes are also possible.

According to the NWS Omaha/Valley office, these storms are expected to develop this afternoon and continue through the evening, impacting areas mainly along and south of I-80. The peak threat period is between 5 PM and midnight.

This week’s weather will be volatile. Omaha will experience a high of 97°F today, dropping to 86°F on Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms are expected on Thursday, with temperatures cooling to the 70s through Saturday. By Sunday, clearer skies and highs around 75°F are forecasted.

Residents should monitor weather updates and be prepared for sudden changes. The NWS advises securing loose outdoor items and having a storm safety plan. Additionally, ongoing heat advisories necessitate staying hydrated and taking breaks from outdoor activities.
