Omaha, NE – Nebraska residents are urged to prepare for severe weather as a line of strong storms is forecasted to move through the area this afternoon into the evening. The National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, NE, has issued a severe weather outlook indicating that damaging winds, large hail, and locally heavy rain will be the primary threats.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 40-75% chance of thunderstorms in the risk area, with a 5-20% chance of an individual storm being severe. The highest risk area includes cities such as Norfolk, Grand Island, and Columbus, where the threat level has been set to 2 on a scale where 5 indicates the highest risk. The timing of the greatest threat is expected between 3 PM and 10 PM.
The severe weather threat includes hail of more than two inches in diameter, wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, and localized flooding. Tornadoes are unlikely, but residents should remain vigilant and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
Saturday’s forecast shows partly cloudy conditions early in the day, with temperatures reaching a high of 85°F. Rain and thunderstorms are likely to start in the afternoon, bringing cooler temperatures in the evening. Sunday will continue to see some storm activity with a 35% chance of rain and a high of 81°F.
As the week progresses, Monday through Friday will bring clearer skies and gradually increasing temperatures, ranging from 82°F to 87°F. By Saturday, the forecast predicts mostly sunny weather with a high of 88°F.
