Lincoln, NE – Several areas across Nebraska are facing a Red Flag Warning today due to dangerous fire conditions. The National Weather Service has issued the warning for parts of the state, including Knox, Cedar, Pierce, and Wayne counties, as well as regions in central and western Nebraska.

The Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 1 PM to 8 PM CDT in northeastern Nebraska, while the warning in central Nebraska will last from Noon to 8 PM CDT. The western part of the state faces similar conditions, with the warning running from 11 AM MDT to 7 PM MDT. Strong northwest winds gusting up to 40 mph, combined with relative humidity levels as low as 16-19%, are creating an ideal environment for fires to spread quickly.

Authorities are advising against outdoor burning, and residents in the affected areas should exercise extreme caution. With temperatures expected to reach the middle 60s to mid-70s, these conditions are expected to persist through the afternoon and evening.

Firefighters are on high alert as winds and low humidity create an elevated risk for rapid fire growth. The public is urged to avoid activities that could start fires, such as burning debris or using equipment that could spark a blaze.
