North Platte, NE. – Severe storms may fire across western and north central Nebraska Sunday evening, bringing the risk of damaging wind gusts and large hail. While coverage may be scattered, the National Weather Service notes that any storm that develops could quickly turn strong.

According to the National Weather Service in North Platte, the severe weather risk continues into Monday afternoon and evening, particularly across the Sandhills and surrounding counties. Damaging winds and hail will again be the main threats. Residents in North Platte, Valentine, and surrounding communities should be alert to rapidly changing conditions.

Storms are expected to ease by midweek before returning Friday and Saturday evenings. While it’s too early to determine the strength of late-week storms, forecasters caution that additional severe weather can’t be ruled out.

Travelers on Highway 83 and Interstate 80 may encounter sudden downpours and strong crosswinds during the evening hours. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor weather alerts, and have multiple ways to receive warnings overnight. Spotter activation may be requested if stronger storms develop.
