CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Thunderstorms are expected to flare across southeastern Wyoming and the northern Nebraska Panhandle Sunday afternoon, with the greatest risk for severe weather developing between 4 and 8 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, scattered showers and storms will form late in the day, and while most will remain weak, a few could intensify. The main threats include gusty winds, frequent lightning, and isolated large hail, especially north of Scottsbluff and Alliance.

Travelers on U.S. Highway 385 and Interstate 80 should be prepared for rapidly changing conditions as storms may develop quickly and reduce visibility. Power outages are also possible if strong winds or hail damage utility lines.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid open fields during lightning, and limit unnecessary travel during storm activity. Any stronger cells could briefly reach severe levels, though the overall risk remains on the lower end.

Storm chances are expected to diminish after sunset, but unsettled weather will linger into the start of the week. More updates may be issued if conditions intensify.
