Hastings, Nebraska – Unusually cool air and scattered showers will mark Memorial Day across central Nebraska, where temperatures are expected to stall between 55 and 60 degrees with breezy east winds reaching up to 20 mph.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, Monday’s conditions will feel more like early spring than late May. Light rain may fall intermittently through the day, particularly in southern and eastern counties. Gusty winds could affect outdoor ceremonies and travel on open highways such as I-80 and US-281.
Tuesday morning will remain on the cooler side, with lows in the lower 60s, but gradual warming begins midweek. Wednesday could bring highs near 70 with a 30% chance of rain, especially around Grand Island and Kearney. By Thursday, conditions dry out with light winds and highs climbing into the 70s.
Residents planning outdoor events should dress in layers and be prepared for changing weather. Windbreakers and umbrellas may come in handy for those attending Memorial Day services.
Temperatures are expected to rebound into the 80s by Friday, bringing a more typical start to the summer season heading into the weekend.
