North Platte, NE – The National Weather Service has issued Dense Fog Advisories across much of central and western Nebraska as well as north-central and southwest Kansas, warning of dangerously low visibility beginning Friday evening and lasting into Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service offices in North Platte, Hastings, Dodge City, and Goodland, fog will begin forming around 5–6 p.m. Friday and persist until late Saturday morning, reducing visibility to a quarter mile or less in several areas.
The advisory covers a wide stretch from Grant, Hooker, and Custer Counties in Nebraska down through Finney, Ford, and Ellis Counties in Kansas. Major cities within the advisory zone include North Platte, Kearney, Hastings, Dodge City, Garden City, and McCook.
Meteorologists warn that hazardous travel conditions are likely overnight as fog thickens, particularly along major routes such as I-80 in Nebraska and U.S. Highways 83 and 281 in Kansas. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and allow extra stopping distance.
The fog is expected to gradually lift by late morning Saturday, though some areas may continue to see patchy fog into midday depending on temperature and wind conditions.
Motorists traveling through the region overnight are advised to monitor local forecasts and check 511 traffic updates for visibility reports before heading out.
