Hastings, Neb. – Triple-digit heat continues to grip parts of Nebraska and Kansas this weekend, with heat index values pushing 105°F and little overnight relief expected through Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. Sunday for portions of south central Nebraska and north central Kansas, including Dawson, Phelps, Franklin, and Smith counties. Overnight lows in the upper 70s and steady south winds may offer limited comfort but won’t be enough to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Cities like Lexington, Red Cloud, Phillipsburg, and Beloit are among the areas under alert. Local officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and check in on vulnerable neighbors—especially the elderly or those without air conditioning.
The high heat may also impact outdoor events and increase the risk of dehydration for anyone working or exercising outside. Employers are advised to implement heat safety protocols and schedule frequent breaks in shaded or cool areas.
Relief may arrive early next week, but until then, warnings remain in effect across the region. Stay tuned to local updates and remain indoors when possible.
