Goodland, Kan. – Thick fog is making travel treacherous across the High Plains this morning, cutting visibility to a quarter mile or less along stretches of Interstate 70 and surrounding highways.

According to the National Weather Service in Goodland, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until noon MDT (1 p.m. CDT) for eastern Colorado, northwest Kansas, and southwest Nebraska. Cities including Yuma, Wray, Burlington, Goodland, Colby, and Oakley have reported dangerous foggy conditions since early morning.

The fog has created hazardous travel, particularly along I-70 between Burlington and Colby. Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and leave extra space between vehicles. Local authorities warn that sudden drops in visibility may occur without warning, especially in low-lying areas and near open fields.

Visibility is expected to improve gradually late this morning into early afternoon as temperatures rise. Still, officials caution that drivers should remain alert until the advisory expires.

Warnings are set to expire by early afternoon, but motorists should continue to monitor updates from local law enforcement and weather services for any changes.
