Omaha, Neb. – A sharp surge of unseasonable heat is set to expand across Nebraska and Iowa, sending temperatures far above late-March averages and creating ideal travel conditions during the spring break period.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, this region will experience temperatures running 50 to 80 percent above normal from March 24 through March 30, while precipitation trends remain near normal but limited in overall coverage. This pattern favors extended sunshine and very limited rain chances.

Across Omaha, Lincoln, Des Moines, and Cedar Rapids, daytime highs are expected to climb into the upper 60s to mid-70s, with some areas pushing even higher. Morning temperatures will remain mild in the 40s and 50s. Major corridors including I-80, I-29, and I-35 are expected to stay mostly dry, supporting smooth travel across the Plains and Midwest.

Drivers should remain aware of patchy morning fog in low-lying areas, but widespread hazards are not expected. The warmer air will help maintain clear road conditions and strong visibility throughout the period.

For baseball fans across Nebraska and Iowa, including those following nearby Midwest teams, the opening stretch of the season will feel unusually warm, with light clothing likely sufficient even during evening hours.

This warm pattern is expected to hold through late March, with only minor changes possible heading into early April.
