Omaha, NE – A thick wall of fog hugs the Missouri River valley this morning, cloaking headlights and cooling the pavement to a slick sheen. From Bellevue to Council Bluffs, visibility drops to less than a quarter mile, and the air feels heavy with moisture and early frost.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 A.M. for much of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. Temperatures hover around 33°F, allowing freezing fog to glaze bridges and overpasses. Drivers along I-80, Highway 75, and I-29 should slow down, use low beams, and expect changing visibility until late morning.
By late morning, sunshine will break through, pushing highs into the upper 50s. Friday looks bright and dry with light northwest winds. As Halloween decorations come down, Friday night will dip near freezing again, bringing another round of widespread frost into Saturday morning.
The weekend stays cool and calm, with highs near 50°F Saturday and low 60s Sunday. While the short-term pattern remains mild, forecasters say early November could bring the Midwest’s first snow chance, with northern Nebraska and western Iowa among areas most likely to see flakes before Thanksgiving.
Residents should prepare for colder commutes, protect outdoor plants, and start checking winter gear — the transition to early-season chill is officially underway across the Heartland.
