Nebraska skies are locked in gray over Omaha this morning, and temperatures are sitting right at the freezing mark. A few early flurries could mix with light rain, leaving damp pavement across the metro.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, a slight chance of flurries lingers before late morning, followed by a slight chance of rain after 4 p.m. Highs reach near 45 degrees. Calm winds become southeasterly around 6 mph this afternoon. Coverage stays spotty, but roads along I-80 and I-480 may turn wet toward evening.
Rain chances increase to 40 percent tonight before 9 p.m., then skies gradually clear. Lows fall to 27 degrees. Any moisture left on bridges or overpasses could refreeze by early Thursday. This is prime flash-freeze season across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa. Use caution during the early commute.
Sunshine returns Thursday with highs near 59. Friday surges even warmer, reaching 67 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Snow piles will shrink quickly, and runoff may collect along curbs.
The pattern flips again this weekend. Saturday stays mostly sunny with a high near 44, but colder air settles in. A slight chance of snow develops Saturday night, and Sunday carries a chance of snow with highs near 32. Light accumulation is possible, especially north and east of Omaha into southwest Iowa.
Early next week remains active with additional snow chances Monday before moderating by Tuesday. Longer-range outlooks hint at above-normal temperatures building toward early March.
