Nebraska – Headlights reflect off damp pavement this morning as colder air presses quietly into eastern Nebraska. The air feels crisp, the sky stays heavy, and winter hazards begin lining up fast across the Omaha–Carter Lake metro.

The National Weather Service says rain transitions to light snow tonight, with accumulations ranging from a trace to around a half inch. That may not sound like much, but timing matters. As temperatures drop below freezing, wet roads could turn slick quickly. Flash freezing becomes the primary concern, especially after sunset.

In Omaha and Carter Lake, roads may look harmless at first. Conditions could deteriorate quickly later this evening. Bridges, ramps, and untreated streets are most vulnerable. Drivers on I-80, I-480, and Highway 75 should plan extra time and slow down once temperatures dip.

Saturday brings quieter weather but not complete relief. Skies brighten, yet north winds stay gusty. Even with sunshine, cold air limits melting. Any leftover moisture may refreeze early, keeping slick spots in play during morning travel.

By Sunday, conditions improve. Sunshine returns with highs near the upper 30s. Winds ease, and travel impacts lessen. Monday turns noticeably milder, with highs pushing near 50 degrees, offering a brief winter break before the next system approaches midweek.

Meteorologists note a 20 to 30 percent chance of snow showers Saturday, which could briefly reduce visibility. Impacts remain localized, but winter driving awareness stays essential.

For now, tonight remains the key window. Keep coats ready, check road conditions before heading out, and expect sudden slick patches after dark.
