OMAHA, Nebraska – Morning fog blanketed the Missouri River Valley early Friday, softening the skyline from downtown Omaha to Council Bluffs as headlights shimmered in the haze. Drivers faced reduced visibility along I-80 and U.S. 75 through midmorning before gradual clearing brings a calm, late-fall afternoon. The quiet stretch will be short-lived — a wetter, breezier pattern returns just in time for early Thanksgiving travel.

According to the National Weather Service office in Omaha/Valley, dense fog was the main morning hazard, with some areas briefly falling below one mile of visibility. By afternoon, skies will brighten, leading into a pleasant weekend of sunshine and mild temperatures in the low 60s. The break will end Sunday night as a Plains storm system approaches, pulling Gulf moisture northward and spreading rain into eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

Rain chances rise to 40–50% Sunday night, peaking through Monday as totals reach up to a half inch in some locations. While severe storms aren’t expected, roads could become slick for commuters and early holiday travelers on I-29 and I-80. Winds will increase Monday afternoon before shifting north, ushering in cooler air by midweek.

Nationally, forecasters warn of a developing heavy snow corridor stretching from the northern Rockies to the upper Midwest between November 25 and December 3. Early projections call for 3–8 inches in parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin, with colder air pressing south toward the Plains by Thanksgiving weekend — signaling the start of a true winter pattern.
