Omaha, Nebraska – A developing warmup is expected to take shape across Nebraska and Iowa as February begins, easing winter cold and setting up a calmer weather pattern with limited rain and snow chances across the central Plains.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, temperatures across both states are expected to trend near to above normal from Monday through Friday, while precipitation remains close to seasonal averages. This outlook favors fewer disruptive winter systems and longer stretches of dry weather.

Across Nebraska, the warmer pattern should reduce the frequency of subfreezing daytime highs, improving travel conditions along major routes including Interstate 80. In Iowa, the shift lowers the risk of widespread snow or ice events, particularly across western and central portions of the state.

In the Omaha metro area, daytime temperatures are expected to recover from late January levels, leading to improved commute conditions and fewer weather-related slowdowns. Any precipitation that does develop should be light and short-lived, with no strong signals for accumulating snow at this time.

Drivers should continue to watch for isolated slick spots during overnight and early morning hours. The National Weather Service notes that outlooks will be refined as February unfolds, and additional advisories could be issued if the pattern changes.
