Omaha, NE – A round of thunderstorms is expected across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa this evening, bringing the potential for strong to severe weather between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley.

The agency said a cold front moving into the area will trigger showers and storms through the afternoon and evening hours. The strongest activity may produce hail up to the size of quarters, wind gusts reaching 50–60 mph, and locally heavy rainfall.

According to the NWS outlook, the region is under a Level 1 (Marginal Risk) for severe storms. Forecasters estimate a 70–80% chance of thunderstorms, with a 5–15% chance that a few could become severe. While the tornado threat remains low, localized flooding could develop in areas that see repeated rainfall.

The greatest threat window runs from 4 p.m. through about 10 p.m., with the most active period expected near sunset. Residents with outdoor plans are advised to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings as storms pass through.
