Omaha, Neb. – Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the Nebraska–Iowa border region tonight, bringing damaging wind gusts, hail, and heavy rainfall from late evening through early Sunday morning. The highest risk zone includes southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, where the National Weather Service warns storms could persist in multiple waves until about 5 a.m.

According to the NWS in Omaha/Valley, storms will first form near the Kansas–Nebraska border between 7 and 9 p.m., then quickly expand north and east after 9 p.m. Wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph remain possible, with hail up to one inch in diameter and locally heavy downpours that could trigger flooding. While tornadoes are not likely, saturated ground and weakened trees from earlier storms could make wind damage more likely.

Residents should secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, and keep multiple ways to receive alerts overnight. The greatest threat window is between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., with storms continuing to push east into Sunday morning.
