Kansas City, MO – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa late Thursday, with the primary threats being large hail and damaging winds.
According to the US National Weather Service Kansas City Missouri, storms will persist throughout the morning mainly south of I-70, with risks tapering off temporarily by midday. However, by late afternoon and evening, another round of storms is forecast to intensify and shift northward, potentially impacting areas in southeast Nebraska, southwestern Iowa, and northern Missouri.
The evening threat carries a conditional risk, meaning storms are likely if a warm atmospheric cap breaks. The most favorable window for storm development in northern Missouri appears to be from late Thursday afternoon into the evening, with storm cells likely forming in southeast Nebraska before tracking eastward.
Large hail greater than two inches in diameter and damaging wind gusts are the main concerns. Areas such as Kansas City, St. Joseph, Omaha, and Council Bluffs should remain alert for fast-developing severe weather.
Residents are urged to monitor weather updates, secure outdoor items, and be prepared to seek shelter if warnings are issued. Stay weather-aware into Thursday night as conditions evolve rapidly across the tri-state area.
