Hastings, Nebraska – Cooler temperatures and scattered thunderstorms are expected to linger across Nebraska through Memorial Day, with a chance for a few severe storms Friday evening, especially south and west of the Tri-Cities.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, rain chances will range from 20% to 60% Friday, with southeast winds gusting up to 35 mph. While not all storms will turn severe, isolated cells could bring strong winds or hail mainly to areas like Holdrege, Red Cloud, and Franklin.
The unsettled pattern continues into the weekend. Saturday’s highs will stay in the mid-60s, with rain chances peaking at 70% in parts of central Nebraska. Storms will be more widespread during the afternoon and early evening, potentially affecting travel along U.S. Highways 281 and 6. Sunday and Monday bring similar conditions, with periods of rain and slightly cooler highs in the upper 50s to low 60s.
Residents are advised to monitor local alerts and limit outdoor plans during peak storm hours. The threat for heavy rain and gusty winds may lead to slick roads and minor flooding in low-lying areas.
Showers could persist into early next week, with additional advisories possible if conditions worsen.
