Hastings, Neb. – Dangerously high heat will blanket central and southern Nebraska through 9 p.m. Sunday, with heat index values soaring as high as 110°F and actual temperatures hitting 107°F in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, both an Extreme Heat Warning and Heat Advisory remain in effect for much of the region. Daytime highs will push past 100°F, especially from Grand Island to Hebron and north toward York. Overnight lows will only dip into the upper 70s, offering minimal relief from the sweltering conditions. Southerly wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph may ease the heat slightly but could elevate the risk of dehydration, especially in windy, dry areas.

Kearney, Hastings, and surrounding counties are expected to see some of the harshest conditions. Officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak heat hours, hydrate frequently, and avoid outdoor labor if possible. Those without access to air conditioning are especially vulnerable to heat-related illness.

Limited relief is expected overnight, and heat stress risks remain high through Sunday evening. More advisories could be issued if conditions persist into Monday.
