Central Nebraska – Central Nebraska faces a potentially dangerous weekend of weather, with both dense fog and extreme heat creating hazardous conditions for residents. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday across several counties, including York, Adams, and Buffalo, reducing visibility to less than a quarter mile in some areas. Travelers should exercise caution on roads this morning, especially in rural areas and along highways where fog may linger.

According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for Sunday afternoon through evening, lasting again on Monday afternoon through evening. This watch covers multiple counties, including Hall, Hamilton, and Nuckolls, where heat index values could reach up to 110°F. These extreme conditions raise the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable individuals.

In addition to the fog, temperatures will soar into the 90s and even break the century mark on Sunday and Monday. Residents are urged to drink plenty of fluids, avoid extended outdoor exposure, and check on neighbors, particularly those with medical conditions.

The dense fog is expected to lift by mid-morning, but extreme heat conditions will persist through the weekend. For those driving in affected areas, slow down, use headlights, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Keep an eye on local weather updates, as additional alerts may be issued.
