North Platte, Neb. – Residents across north and central Nebraska are facing dangerous heat through midnight Saturday as temperatures and humidity push heat index values to 100 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in North Platte, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. MDT (midnight CDT) for counties including Lincoln, Keith, Cherry, and Perkins. Cities impacted include North Platte, Valentine, Ogallala, Imperial, and Ainsworth.

Outdoor workers and vulnerable groups face increased risk of heat-related illness. OSHA recommends frequent rest in shaded or air-conditioned areas. Anyone showing signs of heat stroke—confusion, rapid pulse, or loss of consciousness—should seek immediate medical help.

Local emergency officials urge residents to limit time outside, drink water regularly, and check on elderly neighbors. Air-conditioned public buildings may serve as cooling centers in some communities. The advisory is expected to expire late tonight, but more warnings could be issued if heat persists into Sunday.
