Nebraska residents should prepare for extreme fire risk today due to strong winds and low humidity. A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for most of south-central Nebraska and north-central Kansas until 8 PM Monday. Gusty winds could spread fires rapidly, making outdoor burning highly dangerous.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, west winds of 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph, combined with humidity levels as low as 10-15%, are creating critical fire conditions. Residents are advised to avoid any activities that could spark a fire and to stay updated on local advisories.

Looking ahead, Nebraska’s weather will shift midweek. Tuesday brings mild conditions, with highs near 59°F and lighter winds. However, Thursday into Friday, a strong upper-level low pressure system is expected to bring rain and snow. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph, and precipitation is forecasted to be 80% on Friday night. By Saturday, snow could accumulate in parts of the region.

Drivers should stay aware of changing conditions, especially along major routes like Interstate 80. Anyone traveling this weekend should monitor forecasts closely.
