Hastings, NE – Critical fire weather conditions are expected in Nebraska on Thursday, as high winds and low humidity combine to create a dangerous fire risk across several areas. The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the central part of the state from 12 PM to 8 PM Thursday.
Strong northwest winds are expected to gust up to 40 mph, combined with relative humidity levels as low as 18%. These conditions will increase the risk of fire spreading rapidly if ignited. The watch includes several counties, including Grand Island, Hastings, and Kearney. Areas outside the warning may still experience near-critical conditions, and any fire that ignites could show extreme fire behavior.
Residents in affected areas are urged to avoid activities that could start a fire, such as burning debris or discarding cigarette butts outside.
