Lincoln, NE – Nebraska officials are urging caution as a Red Flag Warning has been issued for multiple counties across the state. The warning, in effect from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. CDT today, highlights critical fire weather conditions due to high winds and low humidity. Areas affected include counties in both central and northeast Nebraska.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), northwest winds ranging from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, will create ideal conditions for fires to spread rapidly. Humidity levels will drop to as low as 15 percent, making outdoor burning especially dangerous. NWS urges residents in the affected areas, which include parts of Valley, Greeley, Sherman, and others, to refrain from any outdoor burning.
A Fire Weather Watch has also been issued for Monday afternoon through evening, extending the critical conditions to all of south-central Nebraska and portions of north-central Kansas. Strong winds and low humidity are expected to persist, heightening the fire risk.
Local authorities are advising residents to remain vigilant, avoid any activities that could spark fires, and stay updated on the latest weather information as conditions continue to evolve.
