Hastings, Neb. – Evening thunderstorms could turn severe west of Highway 183 as Nebraska bakes under above-normal June heat through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, daytime highs are expected to climb between 87° and 94° from today through early next week. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible each evening, with the greatest chance for severe activity mainly west of Highway 183, especially Friday through Sunday night.
Cities including Kearney, Holdrege, and Lexington should prepare for brief but strong storms that may bring gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rain. Meanwhile, areas further east like Hastings and York may stay dry or see only light rainfall. With repeated highs in the 90s, heat safety remains critical—residents should limit outdoor work during peak afternoon hours and stay hydrated.
The pattern mirrors similar June heat surges in recent years, with storm chances tied to overnight temperature dips and moisture inflow from the south.
Storm chances continue each evening through Monday, with updates expected daily from the National Weather Service.
