Omaha, NE – A brief period of unseasonably warm weather will give way to much cooler temperatures, with frost expected Monday and a freeze possible by Tuesday morning. Highs will reach 87°F on Thursday before gradually declining into the mid-60s by Sunday. The heatwave is expected to last through Saturday, creating dry conditions across the region.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Omaha, well above-normal temperatures will persist through Friday, bringing highs near 87°F. Residents should prepare for a sudden temperature drop beginning Saturday night, with lows dipping to 49°F. Frost may develop by Monday morning, particularly in outlying areas, as temperatures fall to the low 30s.
Drivers along I-80 and other major highways should be cautious of rapidly changing weather conditions, especially with frost in the forecast. Sunday night could bring lows as cold as 38°F, which will set the stage for Monday’s widespread frost. The coldest temperatures are anticipated early Tuesday, with potential for a freeze.
Residents are encouraged to take steps to protect outdoor plants and exposed pipes as the freeze approaches. Dry conditions will continue throughout the week, reducing the risk of precipitation but increasing fire danger. By Tuesday, temperatures will rebound slightly, but the chill will persist with a high near 57°F.
