North Platte, NE – A strong cold front sweeping through the Central Plains is expected to bring the season’s first widespread freeze late Saturday night into Sunday morning, prompting Freeze Watches across large portions of western and central Nebraska, northeastern Colorado, and parts of northwest Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Pueblo, Denver, Cheyenne, Hastings, Goodland, and North Platte, temperatures could fall as low as 21–29°F in many locations from Colorado Springs to McCook, North Platte, and Scottsbluff.

“Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” meteorologists warned in Friday afternoon bulletins. The watch will remain in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday morning.

Forecasters say clearing skies and light winds Saturday night will allow for rapid temperature drops across the region. Residents are urged to cover or bring in plants, drain sprinkler systems, and protect exposed pipes before the freeze arrives.

The coldest air is expected to settle in low-lying valleys and rural areas along the Nebraska–Colorado border, where frost development will be most severe.
