Hastings, NE – Central Nebraska residents should prepare for a windy and unsettled weekend, with storm chances increasing late Saturday through Monday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings.
According to the NWS, temperatures will remain seasonably warm in the mid-80s to low 90s through Saturday, with southerly winds gusting up to 20–30 mph today and as high as 35–50 mph Saturday afternoon. The strong winds are expected to be followed by several rounds of showers and storms.
Storm chances will return late Saturday night, with the best potential Sunday evening when probabilities range from 30–75 percent, especially in southeast Nebraska. A 10–25 percent chance of storms exists late Saturday, while Monday carries a 30–60 percent chance of storms as the system lingers. At this time, forecasters say storms are not expected to be severe, though gusty winds and heavy rainfall are possible.
A cold front will move through Nebraska early Sunday morning, bringing a sharp change in temperatures. Highs will fall from the upper 80s on Saturday into the 70s Sunday and dip further into the upper 50s to low 70s by Monday and Tuesday. Overnight lows will range from the mid-40s to upper 50s early next week.
