Omaha, NE – The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for northeast Nebraska, predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms that could bring up to 5 inches of rain north along US Highway 20 by Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service, the storms are expected to develop later this evening and persist through the overnight hours. Rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches are anticipated, with localized areas potentially receiving up to 5 inches. The greatest chance for heavy rainfall is expected to be north of US Highway 20. With the ground already saturated from previous rainfall, the risk of flash flooding is significantly increased.

Residents in low-lying areas and those along creeks and streams should prepare for potential flooding and avoid driving through floodwaters. Rapid rises in water levels along these areas are likely. The flood watch will remain in effect through 7 a.m. Saturday, urging everyone in the affected regions to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
