Hastings, NE – A bitter arctic front is gripping Nebraska, bringing dangerous wind chills and snowfall through Wednesday before a warming trend arrives this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Cold Warning is in effect until Thursday at noon, with wind chills expected to reach as low as -35°F. Snow will continue through Tuesday, with accumulations between 2 and 5 inches across central Nebraska. The heaviest snowfall, up to 6 inches, could hit areas along the state line.
Tuesday will see a high near -2°F with blowing snow and wind gusts up to 20 mph, making travel hazardous. By Wednesday, conditions improve slightly, but morning wind chills will still range from -19°F to -29°F.
A shift begins Thursday, with highs reaching 7°F, and by Saturday, temperatures will climb above freezing, hitting the mid-30s. Sunday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and highs in the 40s.
